Overhead Crane Safety Zone Lights

Zone lights, also known as crane warning lights or overhead crane safety zone lights, are safety lights mounted on overhead cranes to create an illuminated visible warning zone on the floor, helping employees, pedestrians and crane operators understand the location of the hook path on the crane above and enhance situational awareness, thus helping to preventing accidents.

Chesterfield Crane Company can offer a special patented version of overhead safety zone lights that creates a bright yellow illuminated circle on the floor surface below the hook path with a hook logo and the words WARNING OVERHEAD CRANE! Our standard off the shelf versions are suitable for a maximum mounting height of 8 metres and a maximum lux level of 300lux, we can offer special models should your crane fall outside of these parameters. The diameter of the circle is dependent on the mounting height, the higher the mounting the larger the circle.

Purpose and Function of Crane Safety Zone Lights:

• Safety: These safety zone lights project a bright, visible illuminated area (often red, blue or yellow) onto the floor, creating a clear warning sign under the crane hook.
• Situational Awareness: They alert pedestrians to the presence of an overhead crane, allowing them to avoid the area and stay clear of potential hazards.
• Operator Guidance: Crane operators can use these lights to position the crane hook with greater precision, improving efficiency and reducing the risk of accidents.
• Types: Zone lights can be designed to project a line, a spot, or a square pattern on the floor, depending on the specific needs of the workplace.

Benefits of Safety Zone Lights:

• Reduced Accidents: By enhancing visibility and situational awareness, zone lights significantly reduce the risk of crane-related accidents involving pedestrians.
• Improved Efficiency: Precise positioning of the crane, facilitated by these  lights, leads to more efficient material handling and loading operations.
• Compliance: Many safety standards and regulations, such as those from OSHA, emphasise the importance of visual and audible warnings for overhead crane operations, making zone lights a crucial safety measure.
